Will contacts cause me to not be able to get laser eye surgery?
Ben asked:
I’m 14 and my dad’s telling me that wearing contacts will make the contacts scratch up the cornea or something and I won’t be able to get laser eye surgery because of that. Is this true? I’m really worried right now because I’m really hoping to get that surgery when I grow up.

That is ludicrous…he is feeding you a line. Yes, if you do not take care of your contacts (wear your contacts too long, don’t clean them, ect) they can scratch your cornea. But that would not affect your ability to have surgery. A scratch on your cornea is no different than a scratch on your leg or arm…it doesn’t just stay scratched and oozing and gross forever, it heals.
