What is the advantages of LASEK over LASIK?

I am going to get corrective surgery and my doctor said that I am a candidate for both. He said that maybe LASEK would be better for me but it is a much longer recovery time. So I was wondering if there is any advantages to have Lasek over lasik?

    Lasek corrective surgery is probably the better way to go -

    It is better if your cornea is on the thin side.-

    It is a newer method than Lasik - but seems to have better results - especially if your cornea is on the thin side.

    I would go with what your opthomoligist suggests is the best way. Susiecat

    Lasek is indeed the best option if your cornea is on the thin side and you need bigger correction. However, the healing process with Lasek is much longer than with LASIK because they will remove the outer part of the cornea (which will have to grow back itself). While LASIK they make an incision in the cornea and replace it back after the surgery, it will heal faster. You can go back to nroaml life much faster. LASEK will leave your eyes with an open wound, and you will have to wear a contact lense over your eye in order to avoid infection and promote healing. Also LASEK might be more painful when healing, and you will have to go to more regular checkups especially directly after the surgery. In the long run both methods have the same end result, but the difference for you as a patient is in the healing time. Venetian Girl

    I had Lasik eye surgery done after wearing glasses for 16 years. It has been perfect for me. I have had no changes. Of course, as I age, I expect changes. I also co-manage refractive surgery and have seen hundreds of successful patients. It doesn’t hurt, generally. There is a bit of pressure, but no real pain if you have LASIK. The PRK version (where no flap is cut) is a little more uncomfortable for the first few days following the procedure. I’ve seen several people who said they were in some pain, but healed just fine. I used to wear both glasses and contact lenses. I had LASIK done and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I can see clearly, no squinting, no driving with glasses anymore. I can read road signs, see the individual leaves in the trees (they’re not just a blurry mess anymore). It’s also nice to be able to see what time it is when I wake up. The procedure is painless (although a bit uncomfortable) but takes less than 15 minutes. Highly recommended.
