The muscle imbalance has nothing to do with age, alone, when it comes to surgery to fix it. The only thing that age has to do with the misalignment is protecting the developing vision in the eyes. That is what becomes difficult to correct, with age. Eye muscle surgery can probably fix it. But there are risks of it making it worse, too. As well as a risk of needing further surgeries. With any surgery, there is a risk. Only an Ophthalmologist can tell you what would be the best treatment for you. I have an eye muscle imbalance as well and have been recommended to have the surgery. I'm 23. I was just at the doctor on Thursday. He said that age has nothing to do with it and that the outcome of the surgery really will be no different today than if I'd had it as a child. I also have the same problem as you do with reading. The doctors have all told me that if the misalignment is symptomatic, that surgery is usually an option. Even if the turn is as small as ten degrees. I hope this helps. Just see an Ophthalmologist that specializes in strabismus. Best of luck to you. Browneyedgirl

This is too complicated of a question to ask us in here. You need a surgeon (Ophthalmologist) to give you a compete exam and asses the amount of problem you have and give you all of your options. You should ask them all the questions that you have. Then you can make an educated decision. No one in here can help you at all becuase we have no way of knowing your real issues and how sever they are. See a reputable doctor. Spectacle
