Your best bet would be to contact Care Credit to assist you in paying for the procedure (www.carecredit.com). It acts like a credit card that can be used for vet bills and other medical bills. You charge the surgery to the card and then make monthly payments to Care Credit. Many of our clients who have Care Credit have no interest plans. Make sure your vet accepts Care Credit.
VERY few vets allow/offer payment plans nowadays. A few bad clients ruin this option for everyone.
Unfortunately, you will not find anyone to “sponsor” his surgery. *Sometimes* you can find a University that will lower the cost because they allow their vet students to preform the surgery as a learning experience. That will be up to you whether or not you feel comfortable/confident in vet students preforming his surgery.

Does your vet have a payment plan? It’s too late to get pet insurance if the dog has already been diagnosed. Maybe contact your local pug rescue? However - pug rescues have so much else going on, I doubt they could spare that large amount of money for a surgery.
Have you gotten second-vet opinions and prices? Maybe there is another vet in your area who can perform the surgery for less. Just make sure they are well recommended.

Well, I used to work at a vets office, and I can tell you that the price is about right so you are not getting ripped off as far as the price of this surgery is concerned. You could try to contact a pug rescue group… but unfortunatly in this breed eye tumors are not uncommon. I have a feeling that you are going to have to pay out of pocket for this surgery… however, alot of vets now offer financing or you can purchase a medical card that will cover the charges of the vet bills so that you have differed payments. None that I know of. I just wanted to say I have a chihuahua that has suffered with corneal ulcers for the past 4 yr or so. Now they come back about onc a wek, sometimes more. Eye drops take care of them. I don’t know if it is the same type of ulcer as your dog has, but my vet has never suggested any surgery. Also as someone who has had 9 eye surgeries and still almost blind in one eye, surgeries are not always successful. Good luck with your dog.

PET OWNERS: PLEASE READ THIS.
Everyone with a pet is responsible for the care of that animal - if you cannot financially take care of the animal you need to not have one.
I know that $2,200 seems extreme - but everyone needs to have savings of at least 3-6 months worth of expenses - I am sure that if this owner had - this would not be an issue of money!

Have you considered simply having the eye removed? It is called enucleation. It is cheaper than what you are considering, and will solve any future problems that might require surgery. Often, after surgeries are done to remove the ulcer and place the lens plus recovery, the dog looses sight. Doing enucleation completely solves the problem and only runs about six hundred dollars. Just because I have seen so many return visits by people having the ulcers treated, I would choose the other. The success rate in treating ulcers, especially descemetocole, is not high.

Contact your local pug rescue. See if they have a program to help you — perhaps a loan-type program where you could volunteer a certain amount of hours in addition to repaying the loan.

Have you got a second opinion?
My current foster has a corneal ulcer on both eyes and they are being treated with ointment every 4 hours. If you get the ulcer early enough, you can treat it this way.
Sometimes rescue organizations will get a break from the vet for major work like this. But the pug would have to be surrendered in order for this to be available. But better that than putting an otherwise healthy dog down due to lack of finances.
