Is Eye surgery for a lazy eye the way to go?
Amber asked:
My daughter is two. She has had a lazy eye since around 6 months old. She sees an Eye Specialist normally. At her last appointment he mentioned surgery if it didn’t fix itself by her next appointment. Well her next appointment is next week. I am wondering if the surgery is gonna work. I have read several patients have to have 3 or 4 surgeries and the problem still doesn’t go away. My daughter is so young and I don’t want her to go through all of that if it is not going to work. Has anyone else had the surgery and has it worked?

She could very well grow out of it. My brother had a lazy eye when he was a baby and the doctor suggested surgery. Well my Mom didn’t want to go that route and it straightened itself in a few years. Help!

every strabismus case is VASTLY different. asking other people what their experience is probably wont help you much.
if your little girl is ESO (1 or both eyes turn *IN*)
AND
she’s already wearing maximum plus power and is STILL ESO (still pointing in, even thru maximum plus prescription)…
then she probably does need strab surgery. yes, you always run the risk of needing multiple surgeries, but if she’s still pointing in thru max Rx, then “doing nothing” is pretty much not an option. princeidoc
