Laser surgery can fix either farsightedness or nearsightedness. It cannot fix presbyopia which is basically the inability to shift focus from distance viewing to close up.

So, although your mothers vision has been corrected for general distance vision by laser, she is still farsighted for close work because her eyes cannot accomodate the extra bit of focussing power necessary for reading. If laser had corrected her vision enough to read without glasses, she would then be unable to see clearly at a distance (would be nearsighted). Presbyopia usually starts to affect people approaching 40. Jmax

No you have to choice far sight especially if below 70-75 years and add spects to read or later about 80 the surgeon calculate for near sight to see better the plate.

There are bifocal internal lenses if catarate but it don’t works very good bozieu

How long ago did she get the surgery?? The farsightedness could be temporary, vision can take around 6 months to stabilize after the surgery.

Yes her near sight could get worse because at around age 40 almost everyone’s near sight starts getting worse and they end up needing reading glasses. kidofdalife

There are basically 3 vision problems - near-sightedness, far-sightedness and presbyopia.

Presbyopia is the natural again process of losing the ability to change focus - so everyone needs reading glasses.

BUT, if you are near-sighted you can take your glasses off to read.

Many people think that laser surgery is a cure for your eyes - but it just reshapes the cornea to alter your focus - so if you are given perfect distance vision you can see well in the distance but no longer have the ability to take your glasses off to read.

If you fix your near-sightedness you will need reading glasses if you are over about 45.

It’s a common “side-effect” that some laser companies seem to forget a lot. kdawg
