How can I help my rabbit Buddy with his eye problem?

I have taken him to the vet many times but this problem persists.His eyes are having a clear discharge,it is almost like glue,it is now taking his hair off around the eye area,I try to keep it dry but it is impossible.Someone must have this problem as well.Please tell me what I can do to help my Buddy.

Try a different vet. If the treatments you have been doing are not working, then there is another cause. Many eye problems are actually dental problems. A head x-ray should be able to see if there are any molar problems that can’t be seen with a scope. Depending on the severity of the problem, the teeth may just need to be filed down or they may need to be removed. You could ask your current vet about it, or just try another vet for a second opinion. Kate M

what did the vet say? have you tried warm water and a piece of cotton whool for a few days? that might help if you havent Damien

Well.. if you try to put tomato juice in his eyes would help.. i am pretty confident.. SwedishhBoyy

Aww…first of all I would like to say sorry your rabbit and yourself have to suffer from this.
Second, I have two bunnies myself and I know what it’s like to be worried about them and their health, trust me. In fact, I have noticed my rabbit has a little bit of this problem.
Now onto the answer…My advice, using my common sense, is to give your rabbit more attention and give him a comfortable environment and food. The “discharge” might just be a form of tears and it may be a sign he is upset about something. It could be what Buddy eats - stick to the right fruits and vegetables for treats and only give him the ones you are SURE won’t hurt a rabbit’s health. This may be an allergic reaction, too - try giving him a dry food for allergies, and buy it natural/organic if you can. Be sure to ask the staff at the store where you are buying the food from which rabbit pellets are healthier, as well, they can be a big help with that. Also, do you notice this happens after you feed your rabbit a certain thing? If so, stop feeding Buddy it immediately.

Is the fur on his front paws matted? I am assuming that since he is not responding to topical eye treatments, that he likely has pasteurellosis. It is not curable.
A good vet should have brought this up right away. The treatment is a long course of antibiotics and quarantine. All of his cage and supplies must be fully sanitized before being used for any other animals.
There is a chance it could be dacryocystitis but since it has not responded to treatment, it is not likely. many rabbit owners have their pasteurellosis infected animals put down. Astacia
