A recurring eye problem should be seen as quickly as possible by a vet to prevent any loss of sight or worse loss of the eye itself. I am particularly concerned since you say there is swelling above the eye.

Please do not try to self medicate his eye. The medicine someone mentioned above is for the eyes, but you do not know what you are treating here. He could have an eye infection, but he could also just have a foreign object lodged under his eyelid or inner eyelid. The only safe thing I would suggest is using a little saline solution eyewash that you would use in your own eyes. Rinsing both of his eyes with the saline solution might give him some relief, but it will do no harm.

If you cannot take him to the vet because of financial problems, consider Care Credit. Care Credit is a credit card just for medical expenses, including veterinary. My Care Credit has saved me many times for emergencies with my kitties. The link is below, you can see what vet offices accept this card in your area and apply online.

Purrs to you and kitty. Patty O

There is nothing you can personally do at home to resolve this issue with your cat, I'm afraid to tell you that your cat must be seen by the vet.
Some infections can lead to blindness, I don't want to scare you but if you had an eye infection you would require to be seen by a physician...
Proper care for animals is necessary when you own animals.

Please do what is best for you cat, have him seen by a vet.

Best of Luck Angel

There is no reason he annot go to the vet. If its about money most vets have plans for you. If this isnt checked he could lose his eye. remainstobeseen22

The only thing you can try without a visit to the vet, is terramycin ointment. You can get it at a pet , or feed store. Cost about $10.00 Use twice a day. bjsuno

This sounds like a chronic problem, and he needs to see a vet.

Work out a payment plan with your vet if it's a money issue. There is no excuse. Jewel
