Eye Surgery?

If you have surgery for a detached retina do you have to stay in the hospital or even go to the hospital? I think I may have one and I am absolutley terrified of hospitals and everything to do with them!!

retina detachment is quite a serious condition of the eye…. but you dont have to stay long in the hospital…. normally doctor will just place a ‘rubber band’ on your eye ball to hold the shape and prevent the ‘jelly’ substances from entering to the layer between the retina and choroid… or they can use a small ’scope’ to push the retina back to the back wall of the eye……

First and foremost, find out!
Retinal detachments are more difficult to treat, and tend to have poorer outcomes, the longer they are left.
Many symptoms that people take for retinal detachment prove not to be, so an assessment can often offer reassurance and establish that no further treatment is needed.
But if retinal detachment is present, this does require surgery. Many cases can be done under local anaesthetic, but a general anaesthetic may be necessary or preferred in some instances.
Yes, this would be done in a hospital. It isn’t an office-based procedure.
*If* it’s confirmed that you need treatment, you may want to request pre-visit anti-anxiety medication.
(You wouldn’t be driving there or back anyway)
But first find out the actual situation with your eye. That doesn’t require a hospital, and is an essential first step.
