The surgeon needs you to fixate on a light and you cannot do that if you are asleep. The surgeon will put a speculum in the eye to keep it open so no need to worry about that. The idiot that said you need to worry is just dumb. The laser that they use would not burn you even if it did hit the eyelid. It is not a burning laser.
