Can you join the Navy if you’ve had laser eye surgery?

I’m scheduled for laser eye surgery, but I saw a disclaimer saying that you couldn’t do military or some law enforcement if you’ve had laser eye surgery, does anyone know what all the rules on this actually are? I checked the navy site and couldn’t find anything, I may have overlooked it though. I’m specifically concerned with navy, not so much other fields though I guess if you know them you can tell for them too.

If you are serious about joining the navy, you need to call a navy recruiter asap. I believe that you are not able to join, but the military will pay for the surgery once you are in. Be careful because you do not want to get something done that would permanently disqualify you. Good luck. Sandra M

Why not? As long as it doesn’t go wrong and screw your vision it should be fine. But I would ask a recruiter just to be sure. Maggie

Funny I didn’t see the word “pilot” in your question. Don’t get the surgery until you talk to a recruiter. If you have the surgery it will delay you from six months to a year just to enlist. The navy checks your correctible vision as well as your uncorrectible vision. Go through the physical process first if you are serious about joining. If they deny you cause of your eyes then have the surgery. At least do the process first. I’m a navy recruiter in Ohio d_underwood
